What is Rise?

Rise is a digital dollar asset manager that connects Nigerians to foreign investment opportunities through products such as Fixed Income, US Real Estate, and US Stocks.

While several stock investment options exist in Nigeria, they only offer stock options; allowing you to buy and manage stocks yourself. We do two things and we do them differently.

First, we act as a fund manager. This means we don’t let you figure out which stocks to buy instead we invest on your behalf in expertly selected high-performing companies. Secondly, we offer three investment products, allowing you to invest according to your risk appetite and offering decent returns.

Our Lagos office is at Jacob Mews Estate, Adebisi Street, Yaba.

Our Products

We offer three asset classes to help you create a healthy investment portfolio and you can invest in any of them from as low as $10.

Fixed Income: Fixed income offered in the form of Eurobonds is an investment that pays a fixed amount of interest within the agreed investment period; 3, 6, or 12 months. It is set for a specific period, with low risk and guaranteed returns. Fixed income is perfect for people with a very low-risk appetite.

Real Estate: This asset class allows us to invest your funds in a portfolio of high-demand commercial properties. The risk here is higher than Fixed Income because several situations like a pandemic, for instance, can impact rental income. The returns are however higher than Fixed Income but likely less than stocks because property prices are more stable and don’t also compound as rapidly or appreciate as quickly as stocks.

Stocks: Investing in stocks has the highest risk compared to real estate and Fixed Income. Investing in stocks with Rise takes away the worry of when to buy or sell stocks and managing your portfolio. With stocks, it is possible to double your money in one year and there’s also a possibility of your investment dropping within the same period. If you have a high-risk appetite and would like to own a portfolio of stocks of great companies, this asset class is for you.

How to start investing

Our Fees

We charge management fees on a percentage basis of returns earned. This falls between 1.5% and 2% of the total investment and returns. The amount charged to you will depend on how much we manage and make for you in a year. If your returns are 10% or less we don’t charge anything. If they are more than 10% but less than or equal to 15%, we charge 1.5%. If you earn more than 15% in returns, we charge 2%. Learn more about our management fees here.

Why we ask for BVN

First, we can’t say no to the government. The BVN requirement is a government regulation that applies to financial institutions — banks, investment companies, and fintechs.

Secondly, your BVN is the easiest way for us to confirm your identity. Also, your BVN keeps your money safer by making it harder for your identity to be stolen.

What we do with your BVN: When you type in your BVN, we compare it with the government database to make sure it’s yours. We don’t save it and we can’t use it to access your bank account(s) and we definitely don’t sell it.

Regulation

Rise members are secured through our cooperative license, which allows us to invest on their behalf, and report holdings to the Lagos State Government. Our investment assets are held in our registered investment advisory entity in the US, and in partnership with other regulated third parties. ARM Holdings serve as our trustees; they monitor the management of your money while you use our service. We also have an ongoing process with the SEC to set up additional regulatory frameworks for our cross border investments.

Withdrawal

Withdrawing your funds takes 3–5 working days. It takes this long because your funds are invested in the US, therefore, liquidating, converting, and processing may take some time. This process also ensures the safety of your funds because we have to carry out fraud checks for every withdrawal to make sure it’s the rightful owner making the withdrawal.

Note: you cannot withdraw without verifying your BVN.

Steps to link your card or bank

Linking your card or bank account is secure and saves you the hassle of entering your information every time you want to fund your plan.

  • Step 1: Log in to your app and go to ‘Account’
  • Step 2: Select ‘Bank & Cards’
  • Step 3: Click the ‘+ ‘ symbol
  • Step 4: Enter card details and save

How to fund your wallet

To fund your wallet, login to the app > wallet > fund wallet and select your preferred means of funding.

Each Rise user is assigned a virtual account number to fund by only bank transfer. To see your account number, select fund by naira bank transfer.
